Why I Chose to Make Israel My Home – Story 2
Kehila News, Alex Ross, March 10, 2020
Messianic believers in the land also have inspiring and even miraculous stories to tell about moving here. Hence we are delighted to present a new weekly feature in Kehila News, “Why I Chose to Make Israel My Home.”
I believe that there’s a call for every son and daughter of Israel to return to their homeland that God has given them.
In my case, it was a deep thought I had since the time I was young but something I never shared with anyone since the European society in which I grew up hadn’t been welcoming to Jews or Israel.
In retrospect, though, I can see God’s hand in it all, because, knowing my heart, He allowed a set of particular circumstances to be the catalyst that would make it possible for me to come.
It was in 2011 that I went to study theology and I met a woman from Israel. After dating for two years, the time we were both studying, she returned to Israel. Knowing we wanted to get married, I made Aliyah (immigrated to Israel) and we were married four months later.
Although I had never had a particular attachment to any geographic location, home had always been where family and friends were, but when I saw Israel for the first time, traveling to see the family of my wife to be, I got an instant feeling of belonging that I had never before experienced anywhere else. From that point on, making Israel my home was a very easy decision.
After going through the process of making Aliyah, I recognized how it fell in line with God’s calling on my life and identity, and so the choice to return to Israel, as home, came as part of the choice to follow God.
After getting married I went straight for my army service. After my army service we had our two children. We both continued to work and serve in different ministries for periods of time.
