PA raises salary of terrorist who helped carry out Cafe Hillel attack

The Palestinian Authority has paid out close to a million dollars in financial support to terrorists and their families, a watchdog group has said.
Palestinian Media Watch has accused the PA of paying 3,248,900 shekels ($916,150.85) in financial rewards to Hamas terrorists over the past 16 years and has raised the salaries of two of them from 6,000 to 7,000 shekels a month (from $1,700 to $2,000).
The two terrorists who prepared the suicide belt for the bombing attack in Jerusalem’s Café Hillel on Sept. 9, 2003 are currently imprisoned in Israel — yet they receive monthly salaries. Seven people were killed in that attack, including David Applebaum, head of both a hospital emergency room and walk-in emergency clinic in Jerusalem, and his daughter, Nava, one day before she was supposed to be married.
The same day, another suicide bombing at a bus stop near Tel Aviv killed nine people.
The salaries are in accordance with Palestinian law, which allows terrorists to receive salary increases just as any employee working a real job, PMW said.
“According to PMW’s calculations following the PA’s own pay scale, the PA has, to date, paid the six terrorists who were arrested and imprisoned for their roles in the attacks, a total of 2,892,500 shekels,” Maurice Hirsch, head of legal strategies at PMW, explained. “In addition to the monthly salaries it pays to the imprisoned terrorists, the PA has also paid the families of the two suicide bombers – so-called ‘martyrs’ – a total of 356,400 shekels since the attacks. Simply because the terrorists blew themselves up to kill Jews, each family has so far received 178,200 shekels.”
