Monroeville rabbi saddened by 'senseless' shooting, synagogue gathers to pray Monday

Shoresh David Messianic Congregation in Monroeville will host a prayer meeting Monday evening to pray and mourn for the families of the victims.

The public event will be at the synagogue from 7 to 8 p.m., located at 105 North Park St.

Rabbi Nathaniel Puro wrote in a blog post Monday that his heart is saddened by the “senseless” mass shooting at a synagogue in Squirrel Hill.

“Our hearts go out to the Jewish families of Tree of Life synagogue, and to the courageous Pittsburgh police,” he wrote. “We believe that all hatred is satanically inspired, but that Jewish hatred is even more satanically inspired.”

The rabbi’s words come two days after Robert Bowers, 46, allegedly opened fire on Tree of Life Congregation worshippers who had gathered to pray Saturday. The mass shooting left 11 people dead and six injured.

“We do believe (God) takes the evil in the world and redeems it,” Puro wrote. “We grieve over the loss of these precious lives, but we also believe that senseless tragedies like this arrest us and force to open our hearts like never before to that one called Yeshua … that we may hear of His love for us and be open to it.”
