Markell: Israel will be weaker if Netanyahu loses post
One News Now, Jan Markell, September 20, 2019
The head of a messianic Jewish ministry, who has been a longtime admirer of Benjamin Netanyahu, says his time as prime minister could be in doubt.
With nearly all votes counted on Thursday, Bennie Gantz's liberal Blue and White party stood at 33 seats in the 120-seat parliament, while Netanyahu's conservative Likud stood at 31 seats.
Both leaders called for the formation of a unity government but with both men demanding to be prime minister, there were no signs they could break the deadlock and it could be weeks before the election mess could be sorted out.
Jan Markell, founder and director of Olive Tree Ministries, says now is a terrible time for Netanyahu to step down as prime minister.
"I'm going to say it's a crisis,” she told American Family Radio, “but it's going to complicate the Mideast scenario because Bennie Gantz is much more left leaning.”
Markell, who monitors Israel’s politics and security closely, questions how Gantz will protect Israel when trouble is simmering between Iran and Saudi Arabia.
