Dan and Melissa David at Beth Messiah Cincinnati

Updated: May 7, 2019

Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 11:00 am Rabbi Michael Wolf and  Congregation Beth Messiah in Cincinnati (Loveland), OH. will welcome Dan David and his wife Melissa. Dan and Melissa's primary ministry focus is drawing others closer to God. Dan and wife Melissa travel across North America inviting others to join them on a journey of worship: from exuberant, Celtic-flavoured praise to reverent Hebraic worship.

Dan David was raised in a secular conservative Jewish home in Tel-Aviv, Israel. In 1988, when he was ten years old, his family moved to Montreal, Canada. As his music career began blossoming in his late teens, Dan relocated to Toronto, Canada (a Canadian hub of secular music). Before Dan was called to enter into full-time music ministry, he rose to prominence as a Celtic-rock and classical violinist, playing and entertaining on some of the Canada’s most prominent stages with thousands in attendance and up to 27,000 per event (Air Canada Centre, Roy Thompson Hall, Rogers Centre).

During his teenage years, Dan was first violinist of the West Island Symphony (Montreal) while completing a violin program on scholarship. At age twenty, Dan was offered a major label secular record deal that would have propelled him into a career of writing and performing mainstream music, a gift he believes that God had given him since his teens.

After an encounter with Yeshua (Jesus) at age 22, Dan realized that his musical talent was a gift from God. He realized that God was calling him to lay aside his pursuits of secular music to dedicate his talent to Him. When Dan was first considering his call in ministry he was introduced to the body of Messianic believers by different organizations including the MJAA, and was asked to join Messianic singer Marty Goetz on a nationally televised broadcast. He was then asked to share his testimony on CBN (Pat Robertson). Dan has also worked with Ted Pearce.

Melissa from her early childhood, demonstrated a gift for music, including a keen musical ear (being able to reproduce melodies she heard at an early age). She began playing the piano at age five and composing her own simple songs not long after. Melissa won first prize in several music festivals she entered as a child in British Columbia. She continued her musical studies with the Royal Conservatory of Music, later completing a Bachelor of Arts in Music Theory, History and Composition from the University of Lethbridge — graduating with Great Distinction in 2002.

During the final year of her Bachelor of Arts degree, Melissa was actively preparing a portfolio for graduate studies in academic music at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. However, she abandoned this pursuit after what can only be described as a supernatural moment of hearing from the Lord. She heard Him clearly direct that she was not to pursue her doctorate, but that she was to wait on Him for the tasks he would have ahead for her. She felt that she was to use her music to glorify Him, and to bring healing to others. At this time, the Lord also began taking her on a journey to discover the Hebrew roots of her faith in Yeshua (Jesus).  This nine year journey culminated in her meeting Dan — a Messianic Jew with the same calling upon his life and music.  Together with her husband, Melissa is now living out this calling — her music and songs touching thousands of lives every year. Her music has most often been described as calming, soothing, peaceful, and inspiring.
